Entry 2: The importance of research and researchers in Second Language Teaching
Empirical studies should constitute the major source of knowledge
for teaching practices. Research and researchers are, therefore, a key element to
understand how languages are best learned and what constitute good teaching practices.
According to Brown and Lee (2015), for centuries the field of second language
teaching lacked theoretical foundations of learning that allowed practitioners
to develop their lesson plans based on knowledge yielded from observation and
rigorous studies.
